The New York Times describes it perfectly. “Hollywood has the Oscars. Broadway has the Tonys. Now Twitter has the… Shorty Awards“. The Shorty Awards are held annually to recognize content creators within the social media realm for their outstanding work. Originally when The Shorties first began in 2008, they only recognized the content created on Twitter. Today the awards have grown to include content on sites such as Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr and Foursquare. Each Spring, the awards are streamed live on the official website for the public to see. One of the highlights to watching the awards is a panel of experienced influencers, celebrities and successful individuals to judge the content before them. Some of the bigger names include co-founder of Apple Computer @Steve Wozniak, president of The Huffington Post @Arianna Huffington and Founder of Wikipedia @Jimmy Wales.
